QCA Bee - January Blocks

I should point out that our QCA Bee Group 2 started our year in February 2012 so is ending next month, January 2013.

The last block is Jessica's, the Japanese x and + block. Tutorial here at Badskirt.

I loved this block. It's perfect for scraps and, as you know, I love scraps!

Our Bee starts again for 2013 in January and I'm up first. Looking forward to receiving some wonderful blocks. I haven't made mine up yet but stay tuned.

Sherree's Quilt

I started this quilt at the beginning of the year for my step-sister Sherree. She is 17. I made the quilt top up at the start of the year but only just quilted it last month, and finished the binding two nights ago.

I used this tutorial from Samelia's Mum, except instead of using a 4 patch in the middle of each block, I used one 9.5" square of fabric. I think it works well for this fabric, Beatrice Bloom by Michael Miller Fabrics

The backing was in my stash. I had 5 metres of it. I got it at Spotlight when I first started quilting. They had a sale where you could buy what was left on the bolt for $1/metre.

I will be giving this to Sherree for Christmas. I hope she likes it.

QCA Bee - December Blocks

Bronwyn from Stop That Owl came up with this tutorial for these gorgeous Winter Rainbow blocks.

So simple and a great way to use scraps. You all know how much I love using scraps!

Next month is the final block for 2012. This is because we started in February this year. Last night I got the sewing machine out for the first time in about a month (I've been sick) and made up my first block for Jessica. Stay tuned.

The Plumb Quilt

The Plumb quilt is finished. I'm so happy with how it turned out.

Straight Line Quilting

This quilt was made from the Plumb pattern in the Scrap Republic book and I used mostly scraps, but I did add in a few pieces from my precious Heather Ross Lighning Bugs stash.

Lightning Bugs Mushrooms

Lightning Bugs Flowers

For the back I used this gorgeous Denise Schmidt print that I got from Spotlight and have been saving especially for a quilt back.

This quilt is in keeping with my goal of making quilts with what I already have in my stash. Top made from scraps, backing and binding from the stash and I found a perfect size left over piece of batting in Mum's sewing room. The binding was fabric on clearance from Spotlight ages ago and I purchased it for stashing for binding. It pays to stash spots and stripes for binding, you never know when it may be perfect for something one day.

I posted a photo of this quilt on my Facebook page the other day when it was still unfinished and I had a buyer in an hour. It will be going to it's new home later in the week.

Sunday Stash # 14 - The Ghastlies!

Well this week my parcel from Hawthorne Threads arrived. It was mostly made up of backing and binding fabrics, but I did manage to add in a yard of some Ghastlies fabric to add to my ever growing stash.

I thought this would be a good excuse to get it out and share it with you.

Delicious Delivery!

I love getting that yellow ticket in the post box. The one that tells you there is a parcel waiting for you. Especially because it usually means that it's fabric.

Today's parcel was my backing and binding fabrics from Hawthorne Threads, along with some more Ghastlies to add to my stash. That Nesting Chairs fabric is even better in the flesh, it's just beautiful. I think I made the right choice to back my string block quilt with it.

Now I will be able to complete that and the Cameo quilt. Yay!

WIP Wednesday: Plumb Quilt

Last night I pin basted, quilted, and put the binding on the front. I'm very happy with the quilting on this one.

It's a bit overcast today and Master 2 wanted to 'help' me with the photos.

I have also finished quilting this one and sewn the binding onto the front.

I used this black and white spot binding. Now I just need to get to machine binding and I will have three finished quilts!

A Very Merry HST BOF: Block 6

Ornament.

Now to re-do the Tinsel block with these fabrics and put them all together. Still deciding whether to make a large table runner or a wall hanging.

Winning!

Yesterday morning I was going through my blog reader list when I came across this post from Blossom Heart Quilts. You can imagine my surprise when I saw my name and realised that I was one of the winners of the Squeeze Your Own Bundle Competition!

AND that it was Rita from Red Pepper Quilts who chose my bundle! Eeeek! She is one of my quilting idols so not only am I excited that I won a fat eighth bundle of my fabrics, but I'm a little bit star-struck as well!

This is the bundle I selected. Quiet As A Mouse. I'm looking forward to receiving these and adding them to my low volume fabric stash, especially those sweet Heather Ross prints!

Thanks to Alyce at Blossom Heart Quilts, Randi at Fresh-Squeezed Fabrics, Rita at Red Pepper Quilts and Faith at Fresh Lemon Quilts.

One Pinned And One Quilted

I have been busy this week trying to get a couple of quilts finished for Christmas presents. One was pinned, quilted and binding sewn to the front.

The other was pinned last night and is ready for quilting.

Stay tuned.

Janine wanted these large polaroid blocks. I love polaroid blocks. You can find the tutorial for these blocks at Charm About You.

I used Wrenly fabric and Father & Son owl fabric that I got from China.

Sunday Stash # 13

Just one lonely little addition to the stash this week. A 15cm cut of this cute bird fabric for my low volume stash. My local quilt store has extended their big sale for another 4 weeks so there's no rush to get anything now but there wasn't much of this left on the bolt so I had to get some.

I ordered my backing and binding fabrics for the red and aqua string block quilt and the Cameo quilt.

While I was there, and spending money on fabric for myself, I added another print to my Ghastlies stash. When I get around to taking some photos, I will show you what I already have. The Ghastlies is one of my favourite fabric collections and I plan to make myself a queen size bed quilt with it. One day.
